About Meg van Wyk

Meg van Wyk (she/they) is a singer originally from South Africa trained in Musical Theatre. Meg has worked on various professional theatre and musical theatre productions and this experience adds to her innate theatrical flair when performing. Meg has performed as lead vocalist for Hong Kong funk outfit ‘Good Funk Shui’, lending bright soulful sounds and ebullient energy to the stage, as well as regularly performing at some of the premier music venues in Hong Kong such as Foxglove, Lambda Lounge, Lost Stars Livehouse and Quality Goods Club. Corporate clients have included Hong Kong Tatler, Dior, Dante Alighieri Society and Instituto Italiano di Cultura. As a singer-songwriter, Meg draws inspiration from some of their favourite artists such as Suzanne Vega and Damien Rice, blending poetic lyrics with timeless melodies and dreamy imagery.

Her upcoming EP ‘Trousseau’ is a collection of love songs inspired by and written for her late husband JD Grobler, who passed away due to complications after suffering a stroke at the tender age of 30 in 2017. They had only been married for 5 weeks. In-between and through the songs, Meg speaks about the journey of infatuation, falling in love, finding meaning in separation, self-discovery, loss, grief and acceptance.

Meg is currently based in South Africa and will be releasing her debut EP ‘Trousseau’ on her 7th wedding anniversary, 15 April 2024.
